UBSPI recognizes the growing need for legal services for the underrepresented. There are a declining number of public interest lawyers, which makes UBSPI’s long-standing mission to promote and facilitate the involvement of law students working in public interest law even more urgent. Our Annual Goods & Services Auction strengthens the connection of University of Baltimore’s School of Law within the extended legal community.
With the weakening economy, decreases in legal aid services, and dramatic increases in the cost of a legal education, fewer and fewer law students and graduates have been able to fill this growing need for legal services. Our Annual Goods and Services Auction is a pivotal part of providing a stipend to law students that wish to work in areas of public interest. UBSPI seeks to encourage public service and public interest by providing grants that will pay for internships with public interest organizations or public services.
By providing a stipend to law students, we facilitate the involvement of law students working in public interest law. These students will be able to contribute their talents to organizations that could not otherwise afford to hire them for the summer.
